14,000 Expected To Commemorate the Go-Go Godfather

At least 14,000 people are expected to attend the funeral service for Chuck Brown, the godfather of Go-Go. Yesterday, the family released an official photo from the public viewing at the Howard Theater where hundreds came out to pay their respects. Expected to participate in the memorial service on Thursday at the DC Convention Center are DC council members, musicians, actors, long-time friends, and more. Scheduled to perform are Ledisi, Raheem DeVaughn, Tye Tribbett and others. Doors open at 10 am with the service beginning at 11 am.  Metro (Green line to Mount Vernon Square) is strongly recommended. FLOTUS and Beyonce

Prayer group calls for distance between the two. First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters spent part of their Memorial Day weekend in Atlantic City watching their friend, Beyonce, perform at Revel Resorts. It was reported that the girls sang along to Beyonce's songs.  Mrs. Obama has such a close bond with the famed pop star that last week she was quoted saying if she could be like anyone she would be like Beyonce. Some may view the first lady's relationship, and fascination, with Beyonce as harmless; others, not so much. The charismatic gentleman who created DC Go-Go will be remembered the world over. I was introduced to the Chuck Brown sound over 20 years ago by my brother. I'll admit, it wasn't to my liking at first. And I couldn't understand what the big deal was. But as you'd imagine, after seeing Chuck in performance, and his incredible mark on the community, I was impressed.
