Rachelle Ferrell at the Birchmere


Rachelle Ferrell performed at the Birchmere in Alexandria¸VA on Friday and Saturday evenings to a packed, and pleased Birchmere house.
 

The seasoned performer delighted the audience with her classic, memorable tunes like ‘I’m Special’ and ‘Back to Me’ while providing the audience with a glimpse of her upcoming CD that is yet to be titled.Asking the audience to be patient Ferrell said, “I’m three-quarters of the way done, so please continue to hold on.”

‘Holding on’ won’t be a problem for fans who have followed Ferrell for nearly two decades.
 
Ferrell shared with the audience that her upcoming work will enlist the help of several classic R& B performers to include: Ledisi, Rahsaan Patterson, Kenny Lattimore, and Layla Hathaway. 

Hathaway, the daughter of the late, great Donny Hathaway, has collaborated with Ferrell before, most notably on the tune, ‘Love Is All Around’.


 
 
 Ferrell’s vocal range and pitch makes any song sound ‘special’, even the classic Happy Birthday tune. 
 
“Heard it’s your birthday”, sang Ferrell.  “Heard it’s your birthday”.  “Heard it’s your birthday.”  “Wanna say, Happy Birthday.”
 
Ending the song, and making it her own, Ferrell enlisted the call and response of the audience with a “Party over here” , “Party over there” ending.

National Action Network National Convention

The National Action Network , led by Reverend Al Sharpton , convenes this week at the DC Convention Center. The convention started off with the parents of Trayvon Martin speaking at the convention on the arrest of George Zimmerman, the murderer of their son. The event also hosted Magic Johnson and Department of Justice head, Eric Holder. The convention will continue through this week. Howard Dean, Phylicia Rashad, Sorry For 'Insensitive' Cosby Tweet

Phylicia Rashad , Howard alum and recently appointed Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Howard University, offered her sincere apologies to the university’s parents and students after showing her support this week for Bill Cosby who was released from jail on sexual assault charges.  Bill Cosby with Phylicia Rashad for The Cosby Show.
