'It Starts With You.'

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) will be held Sept. 18-21, 2013 in Washington, D.C.

First Lady Michelle Obama, Former President Bill Clinton, Shaquille O'Neal, Robert Townsend, Dr. Bernice King, Sherri Shepherd, Rev. Al Sharpton, andTrayvon Martin's family, Isiah Thomas are scheduled to participate during this year's conference which includes over 70 sessions on issues and policies facing the African American experience. 

The conference also features a new author and book showcase, job and health fairs.



President Barack Obama will be the keynote speaker during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's (CBCF) 43rd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) Phoenix Awards Dinner this Saturday evening. The Awards Dinner is the signature event of a four-day conference It is scheduled from 6 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (WCC). The premier dinner fundraiser supports the Foundation's educational programs, scholarships and research initiatives.
This year's ALC theme, "It Starts With You," is a call to action urging individuals to champion much-needed change in public policy. The conference features the Exhibit Showcase, which offers educational, health and business-related opportunities for ALC attendees and an outreach project with Thrive DC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people facing the dire consequences of economic upheaval, including homelessness and housing instability. The conference includes a prayer breakfast that features gospel recording artists, including Marvin Sapp, who will deliver the morning message.

National Action Network National Convention

The National Action Network , led by Reverend Al Sharpton , convenes this week at the DC Convention Center. The convention started off with the parents of Trayvon Martin speaking at the convention on the arrest of George Zimmerman, the murderer of their son. The event also hosted Magic Johnson and Department of Justice head, Eric Holder. The convention will continue through this week. Howard Dean, Phylicia Rashad, Sorry For 'Insensitive' Cosby Tweet

Phylicia Rashad , Howard alum and recently appointed Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Howard University, offered her sincere apologies to the university’s parents and students after showing her support this week for Bill Cosby who was released from jail on sexual assault charges.  Bill Cosby with Phylicia Rashad for The Cosby Show.
