From 17 to 60, Black Men Are Being Gunned Down: Nation In Crisis

Many more revelations have come out since the senseless execution style murder of young Travyon Martin. African American mothers across the nation are calling into talk shows and TV shows to share stories of how their sons, or other male family members are being gunned down by cold blooded killers. Sadly, it matters not the age of Black men.  Listen to the chilling voice of an unarmed 68 year old Marine veteran being called racial slurs, before three Plains, NY police officers shoot and kill him after breaking down his door in his own home as they responded to an accidental medical emergency call. The victim, who had a heart condition made this chilling statement.  "I know you are here to kill me." Democracy Now! reports. New Russ Parr Movie, The Undershepherd, Unveiled

The WKYS radio DJ, Russ Parr, keeps proving you can follow your dreams and still rock a 9-5. The DJ has gone Hollywood with the making of his sixth film, The Undershepherd, starring Isaiah Washington, Clifton Powell, and Vanessa Calloway. A premiere of the film took place Tuesday evening at the AFI Silver Screen theatre in downtown Silver Spring. ( See video below ). The film shows the dichotomy of religion which speaks directly to the experience of the movie's film maker, Russ Parr. "I remember I was a member of a church with my mom. I was about 12 years old. It hit me one day that the pastor’s daughters, who my age, they were having sex and I was shocked to know that", Parr revealed in an interview earlier this month with the Patch newspaper. "I started to look at the pastor and the first lady up there [at the pulpit] preaching about giving $200 and getting $200 worth of blessings. You give $50 and only get $50. I thought ‘woah this is about money,’

At Last...A Statement Has Come Along

posted also on our Politics blog . President Obama comments on the killing of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon Martin's new hoodie. After 27 days of wondering when, or if, President Obama was ever going to comment on the tragic death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin who was killed by the renegade, wannabe, so-called neighborhood watch person, George Zimmerman, we hear about the matter from the Commander-in-Chief. Speaking today in the Rose Garden, after announcing the nomination of Jim Yong Kim to replace Bob Zoellick as president of the World Bank, the president was asked: Mr. President, may I ask you about this current case in Florida, very controversial, allegations of lingering racism within our society -- the so-called do not -- I'm sorry -- Stand Your Ground law and the justice in that? Can you comment on the Trayvon Martin case, sir? THE PRESIDENT: Well, I’m the head of the executive branch, and the Attorney General reports to me so I’ve got to be careful

Valarie Jarrett on Health Care For African Americans

White House advisor Valerie Jarrett wrote an op-ed piece today on how the Affordable Care Act is actually helping African Americans.  While many question whether the work of our president has benefited his own people, this may provide at least one article of clarity. The Affordable Care Act: Making a difference for African-Americans By Valerie Jarrett It has been two years since President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, and already, the new law is improving the lives of African-Americans. Since March 2009, more than 2.4 million African-American seniors with Medicare have received free preventive services such as diabetes screenings. About 410,000 more African- American young adults who would otherwise be uninsured gained coverage due to the law. In addition, 5.5 million African-Americans with private health insurance now have coverage for preventive services without paying an extra penny at their doctor's office. And 10.4 million African-Americans with pri

Justice For Trayvon Martin

Trayvon 'Slimm' Martin.  Promising student, beloved son. Killed by vigilante gunman without cause. Outrage, shock, and dismay continues to spill out over the senseless death of 17 year old promising high school student Trayvon Martin, who was killed on February 26, 2012 by wannabe vigilanty George Zimmerman (may he rot in some place unpleasant). Zimmerman, disguising himself as some sort of vigilanty neighborhood watch patrol official, followed, chased down, and killed Martin and claimed self defense as he stood over the deceased Martin with a nine millimeter weapon in his hand. Martin, however, was unarmed. The only items in his possession: a pack of Skittles, a beverage, which he purchased that evening at a neighborhood convenience store, and his cell phone used in his final moments on this earth to tell a female friend that he was under seige by Zimmerman. Martin was visiting his father in the Sanford, Florida (a shoot first , ask questions later state) gated commu

"She was always Mom", said Bobbi Kristina. Whitney's daughter, telling Oprah she's doing as "well as can be expected", said she can hear and feel her mom's spirit. "I can hear her saying I got you." Reports indicate that Bobbi wants to change her name from any reference to her father, Bobby Brown. This was not discussed in the Oprah interview at this time. 'Kristina' turned 19 earlier this month on March 4th. Related Kristina reportedly dating adoptive brother .
