Coalition of African American Pastors Against President Obama's Gay Marriage Stand

Several African American pastors of the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP) met with the media today to announce their disapproval of President Obama's stance on gay marriage.  (Must see video ). In an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts earlier this summer, the President said that he supports the rights of gay couples to be married.  Since then, that statement has sent a relentless backlash, and division, within the African American religious community. The  national media called the president 'the first gay president' because of his endorsement of gay marriage. President Obama Gives Remarks at National Urban League Conference

"We know what we’re fighting for. We can see the America we believe in—a country where everybody gets a fair shot."   --- President Barack Obama Speaking at the opening of the 2012 National Urban League Conference in New Orleans Wednesday night, President Obama touched on several items with a recurring theme of building stronger communities. From touching on the tragedy in Colorado to the shootings on the South Side of Chicago (his first mention publicly of the Chicago shootings) , the president said he vows to "work with both parties to arrive at a consensus on violence reduction, at every step." He said he is open to "looking at everything we can do to keep our children safe. We must leave no stone unturned. We have no greater mission than keeping our children safe." 2012 AIDS Conference Comes To DC

Leaders from the worlds of science, diplomacy, politics, philanthropy and entertainment are speaking at AIDS 2012 , including President Bill Clinton , US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton , US Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and South African Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will participate, as will former First Lady Laura Bush . The week-long conference will be held this year at the DC Convention Center to discuss policy, prevention and advocacy for those living with the disease. "I am delighted that the District of Columbia has been chosen to host this conference", said DC Mayor Vincent Gray. It has been more than 20 years since a conference has been hosted in our area.
