Dept. of Education Awards $26M to Five HBCUs

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded grants totaling $26,164,627 to five post secondary institutions under the Historically Black Graduate Institutions (HBGI) program. The purpose of the HBGI program is to provide financial assistance to establish or strengthen the academic resources, endowment building capacity, management capabilities and physical plants of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). In addition to the five new awards, the HBGI program will award continuation awards during FY 2012 to 19 qualified graduate programs, totaling $32,793,731. “In these tough economic times, HBCUs face many of the same challenges as other institutions of higher education,” U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said. “The grants will help these important institutions continue to provide their graduate students with the education they need to compete in this global economy.” The grant program is administered by the Office of Post secondary Education. DruHill at Hollywood Casino

West Virginia may not be our target audience, but we'll definitely make the exception when it comes to R&B group DruHill . Baltimore's DruHill performed in front of a packed (and I mean SRO*) house at Hollywood Casino this past Friday night where we'd bet hundreds of DC area fans came out to see their FREE concert. This is DruHill: Tao, SisQo, Nokio, Jaz.z SisQo is still wearing his hair in silver (baseball cap to the back), and the group's harmony and sound is still like the days of old when they gave us such classics as ' Beauty ', 'Five Steps', and other fan favorites. The group performed their rendition of Michael Jackson's 'Dirty Diana' that got an arousing reaction from the crowd, proving they can not only perform from their own musical catalog, but switch things up a bit for fans by performing songs from their favorite artists as well (not that they needed to).
