Whitney Houston Dies At 48

Houston with daughter, Bobbi Kristina.
The powerful voice and beauty that has mesmerized fans since the mid 1980s has died.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston, who began her career first as a model, was found dead at the Beverly Hills Hilton where she was to appear at a pre-Grammy celebration along with the man who discovered her, Clive Davis

A statement by Davis reads:

"By now you have all learned of the unspeakably tragic news of our beloved Whitney’s passing. I don’t have to mask my emotion in front of a room full of so many dear friends. I am personally devastated by the loss of someone who has meant so much to me for so many years.

Whitney was so full of life. She was so looking forward to tonight even though she wasn’t scheduled to perform. She loved music and she loved this night that celebrates music.

My heart goes out to her daughter Bobbi Christina, to her mother Cissy, to all of her relatives and to so many of you here tonight, her extended family who loved and cherished her and her spirit.
Whitney was a beautiful person and a talent beyond compare. She graced this stage with her regal presence and gave so many memorable performances here over the years. Simply put, Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carry on.

I ask that you join me in a moment of silence as we dedicate this evening to Whitney."

Houston won six Grammys and several American Music Awards. She sold over 170 million records and was the voice behind several favorites including the remake of Chaka Khan's 'I Am Every Woman', as well as the number one single, 'I Will Always Love You'.   Houston also starred in Terry McMillian's 'Waiting To Exhale' about several male-female relationships of four women in their twenties.  Houston also starred in The Preacher's Wife along side Denzel Washington.

Family members report that Houston was fine just days leading up to the pre-Grammy party. She was even seen celebrating with friends on Friday at another hotel.

The cause of Houston's death is still under investigation, although rumors on the Internet speculate she may have gotten into an altercation of some kind with another person over a mutual friend.

Houston was honored in 2010 by BET where she stated, "I don't just have hit records, I have a career."

That career spanned more than nearly three decades.  Sadly, and tragically, it has come to an end.

Houston was married to industry bad boy Bobby Brown (who, at the time of her passing, was performing a reunion concert with his 1980s popular group, New Edition).   They were married for 15 years.  During that time Houston struggled off and on with drug addiction.

Houston leaves behind a nineteen year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown.
